Distillation is broadly viewed as the single most effective method of purifying water. High quality water can be produced by distillation from virtually any source. Because of the extended boiling process, any microbiological contaminants are killed.
While there are different types of distillers, they all operate on nature’s basic principles:
- Water is heated to boiling point, changing it to a gas (steam), leaving impurities behind;
- As the steam cools, it condenses back to water; and
- Condensation is collected as distilled water.
The process of distillation kills and removes
virtually all bacteria, viruses, heavy metals and other organic and
inorganic contaminants. Once distilled, the water is as pure as water
can reasonably be.
